zurichStage

As one of three performances in Virtual Tour: A Reduced-Carbon Footprint Concert Series, the April 6, 2013 concert featured renowned composer-improvisers performing together telematically between San Diego, CA and Zurich, Switzerland.  Telematic music is live performance via the internet by musicians in different geographic locations. The picture above shows the stage in Zurich: Gerry Hemingway (drums) and Matthias Ziegler (flute) are there in person, and Myra Melford, Nicole Mitchell, Michael Dessen and Mark Dresser (in San Diego) are projected in lifesize proportions on screens.

The music for this April 6 performance consisted of five world premieres by Mark Dresser, Nicole Mitchell, Gerry Hemingway, Matthias Ziegler and Michael Dessen, all composed specifically for the telematic medium. The concert took place at 12:00 noon PDT / 9:00pm Swiss time, with audiences at both sites. A high-quality recording will be made of the concert for future release.
